Product Composition

BERGER Cataphos Thermoplastic (TP) Road Marking material consists of a light color aggregate, pigments and extenders bound together with a thermoplastic resin, plasticized as necessary that is to be applied to the pavement in molten state by mechanical means. Upon cooling to normal pavement temperature, our material produces an adherent, reflectorized paint line of specified thickness. Reflectorization with Ballotini of a suitable grading may be used to improve the visibility of the road marking at night.

Surface Preparation

The life and durability of a coating is directly related to the degree of surface preparation and suitability of the surface. The Following precautions must be taken before application of BERGER Cataphos Thermoplastic Road Marking Paint:

  • Road surface must be free from mud, sand, oil, foreign matter, loose particles and especially moisture. Moisture is a big barrier to adhesion for all types of coatings.
  • For surface cleaning, use wire brush, soft hair brush, air blower or vacuum cleaner.
  • Do not apply the product on very poor grade asphalt / bitumen.
  • Do not apply on previously painted surface. Old paint has to be removed before application of Thermoplastic Paint

Safety Precautions

  • Avoid application soon after rain or shower or in foggy seasons as it will result in peeling-off due to release of moisture from the substrate.
  • Slight amount of moisture may be removed using burner, just before application.
  • If the ambient and surface temperature is below 5 °C, heating the surface prior to application will improve the bounding between substrate and Cataphos TP.
  • Avoid contact with skin especially when product is in hot-melt condition.
  • Avoid inhalation.
  • Never try to ingest the product.
  • Always use safety items, goggles, mask, gloves or apron for personal safety.
